as long as there are children there will always be the 11-16 year old n00bs screaming and cussing people's moms, acusing people of hacking them etc... just because they got 'owned' lol. don't you just love it?

Only ever played PvE in D2. Absoulutely loved that game. My character BL4D3 (Barb) was able to go Bear and tank very effectively. D2 has to be one of my favourite RPG's. Also had a fantastic necro character with an iron Golem and curse for company.

The items du jour are the keys to open the new areas. You have to have 9 keys: 3 for each of the super-bosses. Duriel, Hephasto and the new boss, erm...I forget her name but she's Andariel's big sister spawn individually when you transmute the three keys you get from The Countess (Black Marsh), the Summoner (Arcane Sanctuary) and Nihlathak (Halls of Vaught). Problem is that the three who have the keys only drop them 1/38th of the time and it takes forever...and you need NINE (3 for each of the uber-bosses).
Each uber boss will drop a body part. Once you have those three, you transmute them and a portal opens to Hell Tristram where Diablo, Hephasto and Izual (MUCH tougher than their original incarnations) are there TOGETHER.
I got three keys and transmuted, got Duriel and immediately got snuffed. The pain is that if you die or leave the game, so goes the portal and you have to start again collecting keys. 9 keys is prohibitive when they're only dropped 1/38th of the time.

LOL yeah. Actually I find it sort of refreshing that BNet continues to ban accounts even in such an "old" game.

The PvP in DII will never compare to Guild Wars PvP.

Nope, it sure won't but it was NEVER intended to be a PvP game. That was just an addition after the unfortunate PK stuff that popped up in D1. The devs just shrugged their shoulders and gave players the option to do it if they wanted...and protected those who -didn't- from being subjected to it if that wasn't their thing.

You owe me a new keyboard because I have just thrown up on mine.
The PvP in DII will never compare to the Guild Wars PvP because Guild Wars PvP isn't even in it's league.
Guildwars is all strategy there is such little skill involved it's sickening. I like the GW PvP because sometimes I want strategy but not always.
D2 is all about planning your char, getting items, then just plain skill. When you have to dodge and aim skills it's far more exciting.

Planning characters in Diablo 2 isn't very difficult....the best pvp builds are fairly cliche. At least they were in 1.09 when I was playing. Orb/TS sorcs, guided arrow/dodge/avoid zons, and WW barbs.
Item hunting doesn't take skill, and its usually the items which determine the outcome of a duel. And lets not forget the level being a big factor as well.
As for aiming, I'd agree that it is more exciting, but skill required? You click in the direction you want your character to shoot or strike in. I've never seen people lose because they couldn't aim....dodging I guess requires a bit of skill, but most of the dodging you'd have to do requires you to simply run in a direction.
I'd agree with excitement factor, but not with skill involved.

LMAO!! My account was hacked 3 years ago. I had played religiously for 3 yrs. So of course this upset me enough to stop all-together. I was one of the rare few who had NEVER bought ebay items, NEVER used 3rd party programs, or tried to attain hacked items.
So of course since i knew what i was doing, i had uber items, and had builds that most didnt use, and still raped in PvP. I always made builds that no one had tried, or had shurgged off as useless. Such as the Concentrate Barb, fun fun, and rare.
so i think i ended in 1.10 ? i forget, sounds like they changed a lot since my time, are SoJs still currency? How affected is the economy since the latest patches/changes? Cause i was thnking of getting back into it, at a leisure pace, unlike before...
anywhoo, glad to see that community is still alive and active. I always enjoyed the trade community, i used the official site's trade forum...great fun. chow

I'd say there's plenty of skill involved in Guild Wars. Give two teams the same build, and the better team wins. There are some teams that use such field positioning to utterly destroy you, and anyone trying to mimic them are going to fail miserably. Diablo II was based on items first and foremost, item skills were cookie cutter, and there were builds that ruled without reason. Oh yeah, playing against 75% of the population who Maphack, AutoAim, etc. was a ton of fun too. /sarcasm

I play D2 every day (more than i play GW) i finaly did uber tristam the other day.... wow, that is all i can say. The did not lie when they said "Enough fire power to make you cry."
The one reason i like GW more than D2 is balance, everyone in D2 runs right for the best runewords they can find leaving every other rare, unique, and set a laughing stock... big error im blizzards part
Worst part is how immature everyone is and how they can't stand a loss.. in GW people call you a noob, in D2 they call you a noob and get their lvl 90 into the low lvl dueling game and kill everyone and brag about being godly.. of course until a lvl 40 come in and kills them that is
I was actualy just off to play this right after i posted a few times . However i really miss my map hack and super hacked barb (who is now obsolete).. heh +65 all skills sword + other major hacked stuff
However aside from all the negatives the game is great, i use my aulders durid to help people in normal and nightmare so its pretty fun, sadly due to peoples love affair with runewords blizzard has mad hell near impossible for a legit player...

In D2, pvp was more fast paced. In clan matches, you really don't plan your build besides just having at least one trapper, and one BvC barb. In higher echelon pvp where pretty much everyone just payed someone to level a char to 90-95 and everyone has pretty much the best items, its completely skill dependant, which makes it fun. Private games rock for D2 pvp, pubby pvp is just boring. Anyone that thinks aim is pointless has never played SvS at the 200% FCR bp (wiz gloves ftw). AA is incredibly obvious although newbs generally can't tell the difference between AA and name lock (oh noes, that druid must be using AA because he teled on me from two screens away, I wonder why he was holding in tornado in my general direction the whole time?).
For me, the games are pretty much a tie in Pvp. Guild wars requires more overall intelligence (when your not copying a popular build), while d2 requires more skill and time played (or connections from when you played before).
EDIT: and from what I've heard from my friends that play D2, CS zons are semi-dominant right now because of the farcast glitch. So theres usually at least one of them on a clan team.

I love my zon...*sighs* I'll probably never get to 99 because I only dust her off every couple months but she's got some great stuff...most found in the original no-patch version of LoD:
The crowning glory is the dual leech amulet. I have never seen one before or since. Good prismatic rings too.
The only thing I wish was that you could "unsocket" things. I'd take out the two "ral" runes and put in something else. I haven't found such good stuff in a long time. Like someone else said, I've never bought anything for her...all found. But she's in good shape and can take on anything....well, any monster since I don't PvP.
Sorry the pic's fuzzy but I wanted to make it small enough to fit on a page without side scrolling.
